Be nationally recognized for transforming care to improve community health.
Accountability, Compassion, Excellence and Safety
After years of planning, building, waiting, practicing, and preparing, all the hard work came together as Valleywise Health Medical Center care teams moved more than 220 patients from the legacy “county” hospital into a state of the art, modern medical center. It all began at 3 a.m. on June 13, 2024, as one by one, the teams carefully moved patients in beds or wheelchairs from each unit – ending the day with the smallest patients from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and pediatric departments. It took an average of 3 minutes to move each patient — more than twice as fast as anticipated! It was a collective effort across many teams and from many people. A true representation of Valleywise Health’s commitment to advancing healthcare, embracing innovation, and ensuring that every patient receives the best possible care in an environment designed to meet their needs. Providing exceptional care, without exception, every patient, every time.
Since Valleywise Health first opened in 1877, we have continually reinvented ourselves to meet Maricopa County’s evolving medical needs. We have achieved many firsts – including the first medical residency program in Arizona, the state’s first Level I Trauma Center, Arizona’s first nationally verified burn center and our community’s first HIV/AIDS clinic.
You may know Valleywise Health as one of the nation’s best burn and trauma centers. But there’s another side. We’ve been a leader in behavioral health for over 50 years. We help people challenged by serious mental illness through three behavioral health centers and a network of mental health clinics.
We’re proud of our legacy of care and invite you to watch this video to learn more about how Valleywise Health has been serving our community for over 100 years.
When you or a loved one are in need of medical care, you can always count on Valleywise Health. We’ve been caring for families and communities just like yours for the past 140 years.

As Arizona’s only nationally verified burn center, thousands of patients each year trust us to provide the specialized, outstanding care they need to begin their recovery. This video explores the trauma that severe burns can cause, both physically and mentally, as well as the road to recovery and the impactful, holistic care that the nationally-recognized Arizona Burn Center provides to our patients at Valleywise Health. Hear from patients whose lives have been upended by burns and restored by their care team, with the support of loved ones and through their own resilience.
