The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA), an organization focused on uniting diverse voices to advance health and healthcare in the state of Arizona, has officially announced today that Steve Purves, who holds the position of President and CEO at Valleywise Health, has been honored with the 2023 Salsbury Award.
The Salsbury Award, named in memory of the late Dr. Salsbury, a revered missionary physician known for his advocacy in healthcare access, particularly for underserved communities, represents the most esteemed recognition that AzHHA can bestow upon an individual. This award is presented to those who exhibit exceptional service and a selfless commitment to the advancement of healthcare and the expansion of its accessibility in the state of Arizona.
Ann-Marie Alameddin, AzHHA’s President and CEO, drew a parallel between Steve Purves and Dr. Salsbury, highlighting their shared dedication to improving healthcare and leveraging their influence for the betterment of others, especially those who are most vulnerable. Steve Purves serves as a remarkable advocate and champion for healthcare throughout the entire state of Arizona, holding the position of President and CEO at Valleywise Health, which is Arizona’s largest and most longstanding public teaching healthcare system. His role as a community champion is evident through his active involvement in numerous state and local committees and organizations. Furthermore, Steve’s influence extends nationally, as he serves on the boards of America’s Essential Hospitals and the American Hospital Association. He is unwaveringly committed to enhancing healthcare, particularly for underserved populations, and AzHHA is appreciative of the opportunity to work alongside and be inspired by his example.
During the ceremony that took place on Thursday, AzHHA recognized Steve Purves for his “selfless dedication” to the betterment of healthcare for all residents of Arizona.
