New HELIX laser platform improves mobility and functional recovery for burn survivors

PHOENIX (June 3, 2026) — The Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center at Valleywise Health has expanded its advanced scar treatment capabilities with the adoption of HELIX SCAR3 laser technology, further strengthening its commitment to improving long-term recovery and quality of life for burn survivors. With this addition, the Burn Center is now the only burn center in Arizona offering HELIX SCAR3 technology, underscoring its commitment to bringing the most advanced treatment options to patients recovering from severe burn injuries.

For decades, the Halle Arizona Burn Center has been nationally recognized for delivering life-saving care. Today, its focus continues well beyond survival to improved functional outcomes.

“The discussion today isn’t about keeping people alive, it’s about restoring burn survivors’ quality of life,” Dr. Kevin Foster, Burn Center Director, said.

Burn injuries often leave patients with hypertrophic and restrictive scars that can limit their mobility, cause discomfort, and interfere with daily activities. As reconstructive and rehabilitative care has evolved, advanced laser therapies like the HELIX have become an increasingly important component of comprehensive care.

The newly adopted HELIX SCAR3 Technology enhances the Burn Center’s ability to treat extensive and complex scar areas with precision and efficiency in the operating room setting. Valleywise Health Foundation was able to fund this state-of-the-art technology through a recently received generous grant from the Diane & Bruce Halle Foundation.

The system combines ablative CO₂ and non-ablative 1570 nm wavelengths, enabling physicians to tailor treatment depth and intensity based on the characteristics of each patient’s scar. This dual-wavelength capability provides more comprehensive scar remodeling while maintaining efficiency in the operating room.

“The scanner size allows for faster treatment in the operating room, especially for patients with large scar areas,” said Dr. Arpana Jain, Director of Ambulatory Care and Laser Program of the Halle Arizona Burn Center. “The depth of treatment is very effective, and patients have reported improved outcomes — including range of mobility and scar pliability — following their HELIX treatment.”

By incorporating advanced laser scar remodeling into its multidisciplinary care model, the Burn Center continues to advance treatments that help restore function, increase flexibility, and improve overall quality of life for patients recovering from burn injury.

As one of the busiest and most comprehensive burn centers in the United States, the Diane & Bruce Halle Arizona Burn Center remains dedicated to leading innovation in burn care — not only saving lives, but helping survivors reclaim movement, independence, and confidence.

HELIX SCAR3 is manufactured by Italian manufacturer DEKA and is exclusive in U.S. and Canada to the Cartessa portfolio.
