As a specialist in pediatric pulmonology, Michelle “Mia” Ratkiewicz, DO, helps children and families navigate chronic breathing conditions. With a kind, compassionate and thorough approach to care, Dr. Ratkiewicz helps kids live lives full of happiness and hope. “I love helping kids to just be kids – play sports or go to the park without coughing and getting out of breath,” Dr. Ratkiewicz says.
Dr. Ratkiewicz likes to think pulmonary medicine is in her genes. With both parents working as respiratory therapists, she learned about breathing complications from a young age. She spent summers volunteering at a camp for ventilator-dependent children. This experience later inspired her to help children with complex conditions do “normal kid activities.”
While completing her residency at Phoenix Children’s, Dr. Ratkiewicz fell in love with the energy and team atmosphere. Arizona’s blue skies and sunshine also made it easier for the Michigan native to choose Phoenix Children’s.
When she’s not working, Dr. Ratkiewicz likes to travel, hike, take long dog walks and practice yoga. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as cooking and reading.
